A/ CD DEMO
- The folder WWW.AcmeFruit.com CD:US Acme Customer CD can be given for free to
the channel as a tool or to a customer as a sample.
- The file WWW.AcmeFruit.com CD:US Acme Customer CD:Read Me gives you the
direction to run the the demo directly from the CD.
- Everything is working in each languages (English, German and French/canadian
French) except the interactive part (forms, news posting, database request…) that works only in English.
This partial demo uses trial applications under the Applications Folder (I.E.
that demo does not include the applications programs needed for a full demo).
However many of these applications are "downloadable" from the net (see the
read me).

C/ Set up a full version for a targeted language from one of the folders: 5/9 Acme Fruit.com, German site, French site + Intranet French Corrections (correction proposals from our French Canadian cousins) with a server, a Ethernet network and a client.

Connect to the ACME Fruit site--www.acmefruit.com
Describe the opening page--you are an employee of this fictitious Fruit and Nut
company and you are checking in at the start of the day.
• Start with the new executive home page explaining the way the information
is organized. Double click on some HyperLinks in the words of the VP, like
"Jonathan Reynolds" you get his bio. From with in the news articles you can
navigate to the other news articles.
Play the short speech by clicking on the speech link.
Talk about how the addition of media types beyond text and graphics makes th
site that much more interesting, which will get people to return to it.
• Click back out to the home page, and go to "Site Admin". Here the login is
“Secret” password “Secret”. This is one of the many uses of NetCloak from
Maxum Software. You can password protect any page(s) or even just portions of
pages. Also, you can use "Net Cloak" to restrict login to certain IP addresses.
• Once in the "Site Admin" area, go to “Add a News Article”. This will bring up NetForms form for adding an article. NetForms is another product from Maxum, and like NetCloak has many other applications beyond the one for which we’re using it here. Type you article, your name and click the Submit button.
• Click back out to the home page, "Company news" then, and then Company Daily
news. Note the News Article about the Employee Record update. Click on that
news Item. You can update your record. You can get to the record update by
navigating from the home page to the HR area to the "EE Update area" (or use site admin).
Login as someone other than Hazel Nutley (create a new employee before starting the demo, Site Administration button). Add an idea to the "Sales and Marketing". Hazel subscribes to this area which makes demoing it more interesting.
• Once at the "EE Update area", login as "Hazel Nutley"

We are now connecting to an SQL database--Butler SQL by a cgi called Tango.
Both Butler and Tango are made by the same company, Everyware Software. Tango
will work with any SQL/ODBC database. With Tango, the WebMaster doesn’t have
to program any HTML. Tango creates it all automatically.
After changing the title, click submit, and you’ll see a page that says an
email will be sent confirming your changes.
• Click back up to the "HR" area
Click on Jobs area, and here is an example of open jobs in the corporation.
Search on Sales with the radio button set on description. To send your request
note the email address is called from this area. The query is sent through
WebFM to a FileMaker database. WebFM is a product of Web Broadcasting
Corporation, and Filemaker is the popular database from Claris corporation.
• Back to the HR, click on the "Company Phonebook", to find an employee e-mail
adresse for instance. Here you can search for "Hazel Nutley", and you get the
email address after a click on submit. This is again Tango and Butler hitting
the same database we updated earlier.
• Optional: In the HR area you might want to show them some formatted HTML--in
the "HR handbook" area.
• Click back out to the Home Page. Enter the "Sales and Marketing area".
We’re going to search from some product information under "Product Data Sheet Area". Entering this area, search on Oranges and you should get two responses.
The second will have an acrobat PDF icon at the bottom of the record. Click on
that to download the datasheet in PDF format. Let's tell the PDF storie: page
description language that is plateform independant and that is preserving look and feel on the screen and on the printer. You need of course Acrobat in your System and AMBER plug-in, eventually.
• The Database we search the data sheets with, is called "WebCatalog", from
Pacific Coast software. It is a flat file database and extremely fast, and
makes sense where speed is important.
• Click back up to the "Sales and Marketing Area".
Click on discussions, this will take you to the discussion area, which is a
separate application called "Web Crossing".
Inside the discussions area, login as "Hazel Nutley", following the
instructions on the page (Login: Hazel Nutley, password: nutley).
Check "Subscriptions", and you should get the message you planted earlier.
Note how this gets everyone involved in the success of the company.
• Option: Continue to fly by thru the navigation bar or coming back to the home
page thru the vertical bar (Product management, Public Relation, and Sales and
Marketing). All the divisions of the company can share and deliver informations
to the others.
